The Approach

Yoga Therapy, like physiotherapy, is a private, individual assessment to gain an understanding of your current health needs. You do not need to know anything about yoga to benefit.  Some people come because of injury, chronic health problems or stress which yoga can address.  Others wish to delve deeper into yoga with an experienced teacher.  You will meet with Barb, a certified Yoga Therapist, to create a personal, supportive yoga practice for healing and for the stabilizing benefits of yoga.

What to expect?

The initial consultation and assessment will take 1 1/2 hours. Dress in relaxed, comfortable clothing. You will leave with a clear and easy to follow daily yoga practice.  Follow-up sessions will be based on your needs as you experience changes in your health and your desire to improve your well-being.

The cost is $90 per hour.

The Tradition

Yoga Therapy evolved out of ancient times as a way of addressing an  individual's needs and issues  The focus is to reduce the symptoms, find the cause of the problem,  and apply the tools of yoga to eliminate the problem.

The Tradition is that of T. Krishnamacharya of Chennai India, considered to be the father of modern yoga, who was both a great scholar and practioner of Yoga.  He inspired many well know teachers over his life time including   his own son, T.K.V. Desikachar.  Since 2006 Barb has studied with Dr. N.Candrasekaran., a medical doctor,  who was Desikachar's director of Yoga Therapy until he founded Yoga Vaidya Sala.  He offers Yoga therapy,   leads world-wide Yoga Therapist trainings, teaches courses in Vedic studies and is the author of a series of books on Yoga Therapy.
